The picture above accurately captures a common dilemma facing many college students today. In the picture, a college student appears in a conflicted state as whether to pick courses in which one can easily achieve high grades or challenging but rewarding courses that will undoubtedly require much more rigorous work.
At first glance, it may seem as though taking intellectually and academically challenging courses might not be the best choice for a student. However, in spite of the appeal of an easy path forward, taking a more challenging class will push one to think critically and work harder. If continually challenging oneself becomes the norm, it will put students in a much better position for a slew of opportunities. No one gets anywhere by staying in their comfort zone.
By the same measure, the principle can be applied to life at large. If one chooses a path of least resistance in any area of one’s life, one isn’t living the life he or she is capable of. Ease brings a halt to one’s growth and evolution as a human being. Personal growth can come in many ways, but the most effective way is to go through adversities, discomfort, challenges, and ultimately, difficulties.
